Patterns for Dog Clothing
Sewing for your dog can be so rewarding. Our Chihuahua
Benjamin is always so grateful for all his new dog quilts and toys.
And I have to admit it...I just love all the attention Benny gets
when we take him out all dressed up.
My mother and I went to Petsmart the other day to register Benjamin
for his training classes. He sat up all proud in his quilted
shopping cart cover while wearing his new Valentines Day
harness/vest. People were just drawn to him. We must
have had 10 people ask us "Where did you buy that adorable vest?
"Where did you buy that shopping cart cover?" You can buy some
cute stuff in the stores for dogs, but the sizes are limited and so
are the fabric selections. And...all the dogs are wearing the
same thing. When you sew your own dog clothing and gear people
notice because it made from unique fabrics, fits your dog well and
it is a one-of-a-kind item.
BBR (Before Benjamin Ray) I could not understand why people would
dress up their small dogs and mother them like little babies.
Now I understand. We dress up small dogs for several reasons:
Comfort: Small dogs get cold so they need to wear
clothing and have warm bedding and dog quilts to stay warm.
Fashion and Style: If you are going to dress your dog
up why not do it in style. When you sew your own dog clothing and
dog accessories you can make them match with current fashion trends.
I found a girlfriend for him so I can make patterns for dog dresses
now.

The ultimate gift for the dog
who MUST be pampered! Is your dog just too "good" to walk on
the dirty floor at Petsmart or Petco?...Yup my Chihuahua
Benjamin is too....LOL. All kidding aside. The shopping
cart cover pattern is wonderful to make a shopping cart
cover for your small dog. Our Chihuahua loves to go to
petsmart and petco but slips all over their slick floors and
when I can get him to walk on the floor he is afraid of all
the big dogs that are walking around. I go really worried
about his little legs getting stuck in the shopping carts
metal seat. So I designed a shopping cart cover pattern
just for dogs. It does not have the opening that the
typical shopping carts have so you do not have to worry
about them falling though the leg holes in the cart. The
pattern also provides for pocket for your shopping list and
or cell phone and wallet. Then best of all the pattern
comes with instructions and pattern pieces to make loops to
attach toys to keep your dog busy and a little closure to
hold your dogs leash while they are sitting in the shopping
cart. Best of all. The shopping cart cover can double as a
dog carrier liner for your "purse" style dog carrier. I
love to keep my cover in Benjamin's dog carrier then it is
all ready to go when we shop. The liner also keeps your dog
carrier soft and cozy for dog naps.
PLEASE never leave your dog in the shopping cart
unattended. You would not want them to fall out and get
hurt. |

Instructions for making a easy NO sew Chihuahua toy.
1. Cut three pieces of fleece fabric 3" wide by 30" long.
2. Tie a knot in one end of the fabrics leaving about 4 inches from
the edge. Hold the knot between your knees and braid the fleece
strips.
3. Tie a knot in the end of the braid. Now you have made the basic
braided dog toy.
You can make several variations of this toy:
1. Tie the ends together after braiding to make circle dog toy.
2. Tie several circle toys together to make a chain dog toy.
3. Tie two of the fringe pieces to make a loop that you can hang the
braid toy off a door for your dog to tug at.
I have had friends make this with cotton fabric too but I am not
sure how well that would work as the ends of the cotton will fray.
