Charity Sewing

Some of the donation quilts (for the Garland Police Department) and some dog beds for the SPCA. Many local quilt guilds and American Sewing Guilds do some wonderful community service projects.  A few that I am involved with this year are some quilts for kids and dog beds and pillows for the spca.

Lazy Benjamin the Chihuahua

We absolutely love our spoiled, lazy, Chihuahua Benjamin! Since he sleeps in the lap of luxury, wanted to make it a mission to support the SPCA through the Garland Quilt Guild and donate at least two handmade dog beds/quilts this year. They use the quilts to photograph the dogs, then the beds are sent home with them when they are adopted.

Donation Dog Beds for the SPCA

Leopard and Hot Pink dog beds donated to the SPCA.

HOW to make a simple dog bed: Pin two pieces of fabric right sides together with batting on the back.  Then I stitched around all four sides, leaving room for turning.  Turned it right sides out, pressed the seam closed.  Top Stitched around all 4 sides and across the top to form an X.

Dog Beds for Charity SPCA

Two simple dog beds made for the SPCA.  One is a silly animal print and the other is leopard.  Lined and stuffed with quilt batting.  Did some basic quilting to keep it all together.  Really soft and comfy. (Benjamin tried them out...LOL) April 2009
